Windows XP Setup Guide

The following guide explains how to set up our dialup service on your Windows XP computer.

It is assumed that you have a modem connected to your computer and set up in Windows. Unless you have done it before, you may also be asked to setup your telephone options, which simply consists of entering your area code and telling Windows if you need to dial a number (e.g. 9) to access an outside line.

If you get stuck at any time, you may find the Windows Help files useful.

  1. Open Control Panel (you can access this from the Start menu or My Computer).

    Control Panel

  2. Double click on the Network Connections icon. If your icons are divided into categories, click Network and Internet Connections and then Network Connections.

    The following screen will appear:

    Network Connections

  3. In the Network Tasks panel on the left, click Create a New Connection.

If the Network Taks panel is not shown, click the File menu then New Connection.

Whichever method you use, you will see the New Connection Wizard appear. Click Next to go to the first step.

  4. First you are asked what type of connection to create. Select Connect to the Internet and click Next.

  5. On the next screen, choose Set up my connection manually and click Next.

  9. The final part of the wizard asks for the username and password. Enter anything you like here, as our service will accept any username and password.

Here you can also choose if you want the connection to be available to all users of the computer, if it should be made the default internet connection and if you want to enable the Windows firewall for the connection. Make your choices and click Next.

    Username and Password

  10. You will then see a summary page, which also gives you the option to add a shortcut to the connection to your Desktop. Click Finish and you're done!

You will now see a new connection icon. Double click on it to connect.
